Teaching Philosophy

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”-Albert Einstein

I have a great passion and dedication towards teaching. Before joining the University of New Brunswick (UNB), I taught at several universities across Bangladesh, China, and Canada. Throughout my academic journey, I have been developing new courses and offering a wide array of courses, including international finance, development economics, macroeconomics, and microeconomics. My rich teaching experience across various institutions has enabled me to develop a distinctive teaching pedagogy that fosters engaging classroom discussions and inspires my students to learn more, regardless of whether the subject matter is quantitative or qualitative. My teaching philosophy is the principle of reciprocity. Instead of me speaking all the time, I am also an attentive listener in my classrooms.

I don’t treat the classroom as only a place for instruction; it’s a place where I, as a teacher, implant the vision for the future. I try to read students’ eyes and assist them in uprooting their struggles. I create a secure learning environment where mistakes are considered a natural part of the learning process and corrected without any sense of condescension. As an educator, I don’t need to prove in my classroom that I know everything. Rather, I emphasize the process of learning. I am open to admitting my limitations. Seeing these allows students to come out of their shells and actively engage in classroom discussions.

In the classroom setting, I am naturally enthusiastic, energetic, dedicated, and innovative to inspire my students. I believe teaching is a great privilege to create bonding between generations, an honour, and a responsibility. I emphasize in class that human beings are born with tremendous potential, but they can only unlock it when they are exposed to the right environment. As a great enthusiast in support of experiential learning, I seamlessly bridge abstract economic theories with real-world applications. I have been serving as a mentor for the Bank of Canada’s governor challenge competition since 2016, where I guided more than 45 students in mastering the intricacies of determining monetary policy and, more specifically, interest rates by the Bank of Canada. Last but not least, I continue to strive for continuous improvement in my teaching.
